Maria Guardiola – Paralegal

Maria Guardiola joined Shaftel Law as a paralegal in 2017. Maria first immigrated to the U.S. in 2000 from Chihuahua, Mexico and gained permanent residency in 2010. She lived in Australia with her family from 2012 until 2016. This extended time abroad resulted in the abandonment of her green card. As a result, she had to apply for a new green card in 2016 when she returned to the U.S., joining a very small group of people who have successfully become lawful permanent residents on two separate occasions.

Maria studied politics at Ave Maria University in Florida and briefly at the University of Notre Dame in Sydney, Australia. In 2011, she earned the Edmund Burke Fellowship from the International Youth Coalition and attended the High-Level Meeting on the Rights of the Youth at the United Nations as a non-governmental representative. During her time at Ave Maria University, she enjoyed serving the immigrant population in Immokalee, Florida, where she gained an even greater appreciation and commitment to those struggling with immigration matters. Maria is bilingual in Spanish and English and even remembers some of the Latin she learned in college. She lives in Lakewood with her husband, Antoine, and two kids, Christof and Isabella.

As both an immigrant and mother to a child on the spectrum, she is passionate about helping those facing difficulties.
