President Biden’s Immigration Policy Executive Orders from February 02, 2021

Yesterday, President Biden issued three immigration related executive orders. The orders lay out new, thoughtful approaches to both address fundamental problems in our immigration system and to undo the harm caused by the Trump Administration’s immigration policies (which epitomized a complete lack of thought and humanity).  One order addresses the new approach to Central and North American migration and how to address the asylum flow from the South in an orderly, humane and fair fashion. The next order affirms and acknowledges the immense contributions made by immigrants and orders, through a number of review steps, the restoration of trust in our legal immigration system, including reviewing the numerous public charge rules implemented by the Trump administration. The last order below is Biden’s immediate order to clean up the immense mess and harm caused by Trump’s family separation policies.

These Executive Orders really establish the tone, gravity and dedication the Biden administration has regarding improving our immigration system and undoing the mess left behind by the Trump Administration.

Of course, we hope these orders are just the start and we see both major regulatory changes and hopefully new immigration laws that address these issues in the near future.
